Why Code?

Over the past few years, it has become more and more common for children to be introduced to coding at the elementary school level. Why? Not only does coding teach critical thinking and problem solving, it draws on children’s creativity and boosts their confidence.

But there’s much more to it than that. According to this article from opensource.com,

In the U.S. and abroad, the benefits of teaching children to code extend beyond purely economic considerations. Children’s personal and professional lives will increasingly be shaped by computer programs. Without the ability to code, they will become passive consumers at the mercy of programmers working for technology giants, unable to construct or meaningfully interact with the virtual reality that surrounds them.
